Unisex PPE Doesn’t Work For Women 

When it comes to buying PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), it must be the proper fit to the individual in order to be effectively protective. Everything from the shoulder width of tops, to the length of pants and the fit of gloves can make all the difference. 

Although women’s PPE is generally smaller than men’s and unisex options, there are a few other key differences. Women’s PPE is usually designed with narrower shoulders, a wider chest, and shorter proportions, especially in the arms. 

Organizations Should Be Investing Women’s Safety Gear 

PPE designed for women is essential to the safety of all workers. Unisex PPE is not designed for women, and therefore it cannot keep them adequately safe. Furthermore, poorly fitting PPE can cause serious injury and death. In a report published by the CSA Group, it was shown that 40% of female workers experienced an injury that they believed was, in some way, caused by their improper PPE. 

Comfortable Women’s PPE from Head to Toe 

According to that same report, the three largest problems with PPE reported by Canadian women were that it was ill-fitting (reported by 50% of women), uncomfortable (43%) and that there was inadequate selection of women-specific PPE (35%).
